Jeremy Ponsonby-Smallpiece (RHB/OB)
Opening bat for the 4th XI because, quite simply, we don't have a 5th XI! Often faces more balls in the showers than he does whilst at the crease. Made a career best 13*in 42 overs against Essex Samaritans II in 2004, an innings which included three top-edged boundaries over the slips. Bowls very occasional off spin with similar success. Has an IQ of 173 and drives a Jaguar. Copson says he is a "spenldid chep".
M 42, R 28 (0.85), W 3 (111.00), Ct 2.
Ryan Savill (RHB/OB)
Made his Abberton debut in 2004 after featuring for the Colts but then joined Colchester & East Essex where he played a high standard of cricket and also increased his mental awareness of the game. A stroke-playing middle order batsman who is very fast between the wickets and an attacking off break bowler. Works had at his game and is a very able cover fieldsman with a reliable pair of hands. Recently joined MENSA, he is an acknowledeged expert on crop circles.
M 1, R 14(14.00), W 3 (14.67), Ct 0.
Andy Lockyer (RHB/SRA)
Made his debut in 2006 following expulsion from the Fingringhoe Whalebones for continually breaking wind in the slips. Presumably an unexposed talent in the bowling department that, like Auntie's best china, is being saved for some future special occasion. Awful batsman who has spent the winter working hard on his technique but still finds it a huge achievement to take guard at both ends. Recently took on the fixture secretaryship at the Whalebone to ensure he gets selected.
M 6, R 12 (3.00), W 0, Ct 0.
Alex Law (RHB/RM)
Another promising senior Colt, who is now playing regularly for the third eleven. He is a right handed batsman who displays good timing and carefulshot selection, a developing right arm medium pace bowler and he is also quick in the field. Sadly and inexplicably supports Nottingham Forest.
M 13, R 91 (8.27), W 1 (75.00), Ct 6.
Marcus Christensen (RHB/OB)
A 'born again' cricketer now in his second season at Abberton. He is a potentially elegant and effective middle order batsmen and an improving off break bowler but suffers from match nerves. With more self confidence he will prove a excellent addition to the Sunday sides. Although a trifle rowdy on the pitch, his dapper standard of dress is straight out of the 1930 cricket card collection. Significanlty lowers the average weight of any Abberton side in which he appears.
