APPLEYARD SIGNS OFF WITH TON [05/09/07 03:38:20]

Adopted 'convict' Callum Appleyard (right) made his highest score for the club in his final match before enforced deportation for alcohol-related crimes sees him return to his native Melbourne in three weeks time.

The popular antipodean captain, whose accent has almost become understandable during three impressive season at The Brow, signed off with a blistering 136 against the Abberton Old Boys All Stars on Friday.

His innings, which included a 71 ball century, contained fourteen fours and six sixes, one of the latter causing considerable damage to the neighbour from hell's tiled roof and the portly Treasurer had still not stopped grizzling about it two days later!

Appleyard has called an early halt to his season following a foot injury sustained during early August which saw him finish our triumphant TCL campaign often in considerable pain, his condition being worsened by the extremely hard labour he put in each week with wicket and outfield preparation due to general bone idleness of certain other members of the groundstaff! This has made him a leading cointender for the Polly Rogers Award.
