TEN MAIDENS [25/05/07 19:23:57]
Hats off to our close neighbours' left arm slow medium pacer Kevin Hewes (pictured right batting against Stoke Mandeville III) who returned the highly improbable figures of 10-10-0-0 from last week's encounter between the islanders and West Bergholt and still finished on the losing side!
Although our very own Mike Kettle apparently obliged by pushing back nine of the maidens, it is still a pretty decent feat and thought to be a league first. Kevin has always lacked penetration in many ways, but on any kind of 'pudding' he can be quite a nuisance with helpful conditions.
Mike had the last laugh though; his painstaking 42 in 43.2 overs seeing his side to victory. He had earlier distinguished himself behind the stumps with four stumpings and two catches which, recollection suggests, equals the competition record set by some porcine specimen thirteen years ago!
