History
Although the club was officially formed in 1947, many games were played under the Abberton banner in earlier years in the neighbouring village of Fingringhoe. The four founder members of th club were Colin Tippetts, Jimmy Telford, Peter Russell-Walker and the landlord of The Langenhoe Lion, Bert Amos.
In the early days, the club boasted just the one side which played about 20 friendlies per season against other local sides such as West Mersea and Tollesbury. In 1979 a second XI was formed and this was followed in 1993 by a third XI and four years laer by a Ladies team. During this period there have been various age groups of Colts. There is now no time for friendlies as the club now plays more than 100 games each season at senior levels.
1977 saw Abberton become one of the eight founder members of the Greene King League (now known as the PDQ League) and were crowned champions in the inaugural year. In 1983 the club joined the Two Counties League and won promotion to the top flight at the first attempt. RC
