ADCC are proud to announce a further commercial tie-in with local premier drinks supplier Roman River Wines and Beers, with the sponsorship of the new '5 Run Challenge'.

The event, which is thought to have been invented by Royal London CC more than twenty years sgo, takes its bow at The Brow in an attempt to increase recognition of the 'value of quick running between the wickets' and, through the sponsorship, will boast a host of attractive prizes for the successful participants.

Speaking on behalf of RRW&B, Managing Director, Sports Sponsorship (Europe), Paul Welton said from his Fingringhoe HQ, "We are delighted to be associated with such a prestigious competition as the Challenge which is an exciting addition to the sporting calendar. It embraces speed, agility, health and fitness, atrributes we at Roman River are keen to promote."

The competition is breathtakingly simple. All the contestants are required to do is run a 'five' whilst in full batting kit, the fastest time being adjudged the winner. To be fair to all members, a handicapping system also exists in order that players of all ages can compete on a level playing field.

Compeitition Rules

1 All entrants must be fully equipped to bat, wearing pads, gloves and an abdominal protector, and carrying a full size bat. Thigh pads, helmet etc, are not mandatory.

2 Five runs must be completed from a standing start with the batsman fully behind the popping crease.

3 To ensure consistency, all timings are to be carried out by the Webmaster, whose decision is final.

4 Closing date is Sunday 28 September.

Handicap

To allow for players of 'advancing years', a handicap sysetem has been devised. A contestant's time will be adjusted up or down based upon age 30 at the rate of plus or minus 0.1 seconds for each year of age. For example, a 38 year old player recording a time of 20.50 seconds will have a fravourable adjustment of 0.80 seconds (8 x 0.10) giving him (or her) an 'age adjusted' time of 19.70. There will be no separate allowance for weight or gender.
